ABOUT:
Laura Boban (b. 1984, Joliet, IL) is an interdisciplinary visual artist + educator based in Western Mass. She explores themes of identity formation, belonging and failure through quilting, sculpture and video-performance. Laura received her BFA in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008 and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020 with a focus in fiber/textiles. She has exhibited her work and research in various art spaces and institutions across the U.S. including the ICA in Richmond, VA, SECAC Annual Conference and MARN Art + Culture Hub in Milwaukee. Her current exhibition, Inter Lace, is on view at the Eigengrau Gallery at Grey Matter Books in Hadley, MA.
Prior to attending graduate school, Laura was a high school visual arts teacher for ten years in Chicago. In 2016 she presented curriculum at the National Art Education Association Conference and has participated in the Teacher Institute through the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. She currently works as Coordinator of the Education Initiative at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
